Interview with the 'tea lady' 25-08-2001The tea lady (as you call her) very kindly agreed to give me a precise of her life behind the scenes at Town.
Her name is Jean Leeming and she does a wonderful job!
Could i please ask that anyone reading this puts it on their web page if they have one. this lady deserves some recognition and her and her husband are Town's longest serving staff.
This is probably the best known room to many players and Managers who visit the McAlpine Stadium. In actual fact it is the laundry where Jean washes the match day kit for all the teams helped by her husband Bryan who has recently retired from KSDL.
On match days the laundry is a hive of activity where tea and juice are on hand for the players of both the home and away teams.
Some famous names have graced "The Den" Brian Robson, Kevin keegan, David Platt, Paul Gascoine, Michael Owen and many mnay more.
she also looks after the referees [(I suppose someone has to LOL--Jeanne)} St John's ambulance men, th visually impaired supporters and the disabled supporters in the Lawrence Batley Stand at half time.
When the stadium company held the REM concert, the laundry room was converted into a dressing room. The walls and machines were all covered in black Voile. Black vinyl settees, Stainless steel and glass topped tables, soft lights and potted plants, all very swish! the following day the room was transferred back to the laundry.
She has also met Bryan Adams and the Eagles, for whom she washed for.
The lightening seeds dedicated one of their numbers to her whilst at the Stadium (and the group also popped in for a cuppa of course) In the Den Jean has what is affectionately known as "The Wall of Death" This consists of photos of Jena with the Managers who have now left the club (unfortunately Lou Macari was recently added to this wall) Also there is a wall of fame, with photos of the Lads, the most recent being Jean and Bryan with the Academy team (whom they have always taken a strong interest in)
They have watched Trevor Cherry, Steve Smith and Andy Booth all grow up here, amongst many many others.
When Jacko was manager the players used the laundry as their lunch room and the camaraderie and friendly banter boosted the morale in the Great Escape [{ I have shared in this a few times and can vouch for it working very very well and being fun -Jeanne]}
Jena thoroughly enjoys her work an is immensely proud of her "BLUE and WHITES".
