Huddersfield 1 - 0 Sheffield Wednesday League 1 29-03-2005A great win last night in front of a big crowd. Tom Clarke looks a great prospect at centre half, not as good when i have seen him in full back positions . Him and Mirfin were outstanding.
Edwards had a decent game as he pushes for a new contract but Jacko may release him due to lack of pace now. I think he is worth another year if only for experienced back up and reserve captain to help the young players.
Holdsworth was probably off form, lots of times he gave away the posession or played aimless balls . Ahmed and Worthington looked a good formation in midfield.
Worthington has probably benefited from his enforced lay off, being the captain seems to make him un- droppable and he looks a lot fresher since his ban.
Boothy had a good game , pity about his hand ball goal, that would have been great for him in front of the wednesday fans , who to be fair didnt boo him , unlike poor Alex Bruce on their side , who was booed mercisally for having the demerity to be Steve Bruce's son.
It happened to him when he was on loan at Oldham the other week, now he comes back with wednesday and it must have affected him as he lunged into Ahmed and got as straight red card. this eased our problems, being 1-0 up already we had no need to chase the game and could allow wednesday to decide if they wanted to push for an equaliser.
They did pressure us in parts but i felt we really should have scored again, Brandon was wasteful when set up by Boothy, and Boothy himself launched one over the bar when well placed. Schofield was unlucky with a header and Boothy had a header which looked as though it had looped in but landed on the roof of the net.
The final whistle was a great relief, unfortunatley the usual qoutes about the play offs then came out again.
We are too far behind. You need about 70 points to get into them, we have 54 and so even if we win all our last 6 matches that puts us on 72 , that might just do it, but who in their right mind thinks we can make the play offs by winning the next 6 games including an away trip to Brentford in amongst that .? Oh aye, Jacko......
It would be great to finish 10th and above Bradford, that would be a satisfactory end to the season and give us a good platform to build on next season. By David Clegg from the Blue-Army Mailing list. |
