Notingham Forest 2 - 1 Huddersfield
League 1
08-08-2005

Was very predictable we were going to concede late in each half. Forest had been pressing and creating chances well and the formation or the players (not sure which) didnt work at all in first half.

There were times when we passed the ball and were getting cheers from the Town fans at 0-0 but whilst we were keepin the ball it weren't going forward anywhere threatening their goal . As no point did i think we would score in the first half.

2nd half Danny Schofield came on and Jacko reverted to 4-4-2 and we improved, even winning some corners. danny danced around a couple of defenders and as we were all shouting "shoot!" he gets tripped, the ref took a few seconds to decide, but gave the pen. The in-effectual Abbot scored easily from the spot , but was later substituted for G.T.F.

I seem to recall reading Jacko said we had some marvellous set pieces lined up this season, but we didnt use them pre season so we could surprise Forest with them.... Hmmmmm well...

We get a corner and the one we tried last season where one player pretends to accidently tap it and the other half heartedly trots over as if to take it, but then speeds up to collect the ball to cross ...DIDNT WORK. been done , didnt work, forget it!

The free kick near the end summed it up... Mark Hudson alledged free kick and dead ball specialist , good chance for him to show what he can do from 25-30 yards out, hovers over the ball , steps back, "Is this going to the new surprise free kick" we wonder , surely he can get it on target....

Hudson runs over the ball and MaCintosh, centre half , clogs it ..........DIDNT WORK ....brilliant!!

Okay, so i am being a bit critical here, there were good points about today......

1. We took a massive away following.
2. It was sunny.
3. the pub by the river was nice.
4. We had a good sing song.
5. Pav scored in front of the away end
6. Boothy nearly scored in front of the away end after Mirfin did well on the right.
7. We didnt get thrashed.

Overall though, not impressed with it. Got to improve on the creating chances and i think we need players who can cross the ball from the flanks otherwise all Boothy is getting fed is long punts upfield and we aren't going to be a top 6 team playing that way. The one great cross from the flanks came from Mirfin and Boothy got it on target, the keeper made a great save. Thats what we need! crossing the ball from the wings at pace towards Boothy, not lumping it toward him with his back to goal...

Team marks out of ten.

Rachubka 6 (still needs to improve distribution),
Holdsworth 6 (tidy play but not enough forward runs and crosses),
Adams 5 (looked like he had gained a few pounds, cant get up and down the flanks, cant cross,
McIntosh 6 ( looked solid enough but seemed confused with Clarke over who was marking who),
Clarke 6, ( see above)
Mirfin 8 (looked our best player at both centre half and right back, created a great chance for Boothy with a cross from the flanks..thats what we need!)
Worthington 6 ( at fault for last goal, with a stupid blind pass when we were comfortable in possesssion in their half)
Hudson 5 ( didnt look a first team regular, needs to improve to stay in team)
Brandon 6 (usual 100% effort but little quality)
Booth 7 (did his best with long punts toward him, great header from Mirfin from the right wing almost put us 2-1 up)
Abbott 5 (poor, lost ball a lot, good penalty though )

subs. Schofield 6 (made instant impact on left wing , but faded )
GTF 5 ( no impact )
