Doncaster 1 - 2 Huddersfield
League 1
29-08-2005

Same again today at Doncaster. Superb performance first half followed by dodgy performance second half much of it against ten men, however we are top of the league so who cares ?

Game started well when a corner was only half cleared and Chris Brandon collected the ball and sent a superb drilled shot in from 20 yards which beat Doncaster keeper Andy Warrington and Town were off to a flier.

we quickly took control of the game and , Danny Schofield skipped round 2 or 3 defenders and sent a shot in which was well parried by Warrington, another penalty was turned down when Brandon out foxed a defender and was sent crashing, the ref waved play on much to the consternation of the fans , however another goal was soon arriving.

Jon Worthington had already had one 20 yeard shot saved by the keeper but he wasn't to be denied a goal and he sent a very well timed half volley on goal from 20 yards which went past warrington into the corner. Most unlike Worthy , who is not renowned for his accuracy on goal , but this was a beauty!

So half time and the talk wa sogf how manyoculd we get, unfortunately the 2nd half wa smuch diffrent. Doncaster got on top and after Rachubka tripped one of their players in the box a penalty was awarded, not much doubt there , the only question was whether the ref would send him off, thankfully a yellow card and a converted penalty was sufficient punishment.

As Doncaster got on top Rachubka pulled off a great save from a free kick at the edge of the box and Doncaster then made it difficult for themselves when Lewis Guy sent a flailing arm towards Tom Clarke as both players had gone for a loose ball. The ref appeared to have his back to the incident and i never expected a red card for the Doncaster man, but the ref must have had the nod from the linseman as a straight red followed.

Even then Town didnt get on top , still sending long balls towards GTF and Pav, but they aint Boothy and they dont win headers , anyway we managed to hold out and another welcome 3 points sent us top of the league. Overall very similar to the Hartlepool match, on top first halfbut hanging on to a slender lead by the end of the match. Someone is going to get a 4 or 5 nil drubbing the way we play first half at the moment ...

Also worth a mention the fat Doncaster fan who spent most of the match trying to wind the Town ans up and never seemed to watch the match.odd man.....and it was very sunny so another bonus on the open end away section of the "Earth stadium " or whatever it is called.
