Huddersfield 2 -1 Nottingham Forest League 1 26-11-2005This was a CRACKER! The first half we were immense. We footballed them to death. At two nil down Megson withdrew one of his three centre halves and brought on another striker, Jack Lester, who immediately set about kicking our players, diving and doing a studs up challenge on Rabs as he collected a ball. He was booked for this but fortunate it was just this.
We could have been 4 or 5 up and played exceptionally IMHO!
The second half began with a ball over the top and as Mirf, I think, ran back towards goal he was caught from behind by Lester but Lester was allowed to go on and score. So two-one and it all became a little more nervy. A late foul on a Town man was allowed to play on as Gary T-F had collected the pass and broken clear. When he was then pulled down the ref had no option but to send their man off. They started to throw men forward but were caught out at the back several times but Town failed to kill them off. An injury to GTF meant we kicked the ball out and Forest refused to pass it back to us and from this passage of play Lester cut into the box and went to the ground under the challenge. We all groaned as the ref pointed but then realised he was giving US a free kick for Lester's dive and booking him for it. This second card meant they were
down to nine men.
They still had a real go but Town had so many chances to kill them off it was silly.
Our two goals were excellent, the first George Best would have been proud of, a great ball forward, a fantastic first touch by Schofield and an exquisite lob put us one up. The second came from superb work by Brandon and led eventually to a close range finish by Boothy.
Another multi-man move resulted in a shot against the post and we were cooking with gas. Awesome. A joy to watch.
Just a shame we never got the third as I think we would have relaxed and pulverised them.
