Huddersfield 2 - 0 Colchester League 1 11-02-2006That cliché, “A game of 2 halves” could be used in our match against in form
Colchester. 1st half they were very impressive, played us off the park,
should have been 3 goals up but we went in winning 1-0, mainly down to good
luck, bad finishing and a certain amount of grit and determination.
Fletchers deflected shot giving town an undeserved yet welcome lead.
As per Oldham the previous home game, they went for it at 100 mph and
couldn’t finish us off and were never going to be able to keep up the pace
of the game.
2nd half, Town were taking the game to them trying to extend the slender
lead and the cause was helped then united were reduced to 10 men for a
professional foul. A tad harsh I thought as I thought Graham was drifting
away from goal and perhaps there was cover, but he was clean through and
pulled back, the ref had no hesitation in showing the red card. Town
started to dominate and Graham made it 3 in 3 in his short yet fruitful town
career to double our money. It could have been 3, it was nearly 2-1 late on
but the lads held on and too a very valuable 3 points to keep us in the
playoff hunt.
Perhaps a shock result, but a good one. Our main are of focus now has to be
that follow it up with a result in our next 2 games against Blackpool and MK
Dons. The two who played on Saturday and the Dons running out comfortable
3-0 winners.
One area of concern is the omission of Danny Schofield. Contract talks have
hit a stumbling block and it could the talented winger will move on at the
end of the season. Personally, I’d be very sad to see him leave, he’s
without doubt our most skilful player and will be a loss to the squad
although if he is wanting to Town to break their wage structure then he’ll
have to leave. Frustrating I know, but we have a stable financial footing
and paying big wages got the club into trouble before and I doubt that will
be allowed to happen again.
9 points in 8 days will do very nicely thankyou very much!! By Mark Overend from the Blue-Army mailing list. |
