Huddersfield 1 - 2 Chesterfield League 1 18-04-2006Well, its not Thursday and I have just about calmed down from my angry state after the gutless, clueless performance against Chesterfield, from team, right through to the manager and club all seemed to get it wrong.
Maybe even the fans knew it wasn't to be as it was a very poor atmosphere I thought, you certainly wouldn't have thought we needed to win to get 2nd with 3 games to go, they crowd were simply not up for it and so it seemed everyone else.
Was shocked to see 3 injured players on the bench, bit of a risk and a half I thought.
Early on, Town passed it well and when went 1-0 up, we thought here we go, but it seemed from that goal, things went downhill. Grahams had a great chance shortly after which hit the post but after that, I don't recall Town having another chance on goal for the rest of the game.
We seem to switch off, the pace of the team went, the passing went and Chesterfield seemed to getting back into the game.
At half time was the strange one for me, why did we water the pitch? Leaving it soaked in the middle and also, why
water the penalty box only that were defending? I thought, can see it, now, our defenders slipping in the box and conceding vital goals. Does anyone know why this occurred?
When the teams came out were were rather surprised not to see Andy Holdsworth, instead on was Tom Clarke and town changed to a 3-5-2 or 5-3-2 which position you want to class the wing backs as.
This however backfired like nothing else I have seen and Chesterfield picked up the pace and totally outplayed town, before we knew it, they were level and not surprisingly they took the lead and that was that.
Town were clueless at the back, statues just gazing at each other. The reason no higher clubs have not come in for any of these players is they simply aren't good enough. You can rave all you like about the likes of Nathan Clarke and Mirfin, whilst they are ok young players, they aren't good enough when it matters and combined with Tom Clarke, demonstrated how to
throw away the game.
Sub Tom Clarke was soon hauled off, jacko claiming he was injured although I think that was just to save face because he ran down the tunnel without looking injured to me. What a joke that was.
Basically they are utter shite on the night, that coupled with only one away win since November, clearly do not deserve to go up. With 2 away games left, it's not certain we will even make the playoffs.
Watch out Nottingham Forrest for playoff glory, they have steamed in from no where on a run like we had last year.
Hope im wrong on course. By Mark Overend from the Blue-Army mailing list. |
