Huddersfield 0 - 2 Mansfield Carling Cup 22-08-2006Well I know it was night of many shocks in the Carling Cup and we were part of one of them. Im sure there were some awful performances up and down the country but god we were certainly one of them!!
Tonight's match was just lacking in anything positive what so ever and finally showed the short falls of Towns start to the season. In my opinion,we have been bloody lucky so far, today we got exactly what we deserved and that was nothing!
It wasn't as if we could use the excuse of a weakened team, the only change was Collins in for Worthington but the whole team looked out of sorts all over the park, lacked any creativity and were driven forwards, sorry I mean backwards by the incredibly ineffective Hudson.
The defending was Sunday league standard. People will argue about the Mansfield goal being off side, a tad confusing but lack of protests in such situations often tell their own story. The fact is Nathan Clarke was shown up for what he really is, a lower league, 2nd rate defender, yet again costing Town another goal.
Just over 5000 say it, I wish I hadn't been one of them.
Tonights player ratings.
Glennon 6 Made a couple of good saves
Holdsworth 5 Poor distribution, poor tacking, positioning
Adams 5 poor at the back, lacking any confidence going forward
Mirfin 5 Lacked presence, suspicion of scoring own goal
Clarke 3 Poor distribution, poor organisation, schoolboy error for 2nd goal
GTF 4 Very poor game, did nothing, poor passing, gave ball away
Schofield 4 Very poor, some cheeky touches, but always try to do too much
Hudson 3 garbage, only knows one way, backwards, no vision what so ever
Collins 6 got a 6 only on work rate
Beckett 5 No service, not really involved
Abbott 5 as above, tried to get more involved but got put out wide and was taken out of the game
Booth 5 Ineffective
Peter Jackson 2 Team not motivated, unable to recognise where it was going wrong, failed to change the formation, brought Booth on but took Abbott out of the game by playing out wide and keeping 4-4-2
Forrest up next.
