Huddersfield 0 - 2 Mansfield
Carling Cup
22-08-2006

What a shambles! First half better than the second but that's not saying much. Not much service to the front two and the only shot we had in the first half on target was one from Schofield. Not that we seemed in any danger till the second minute of time added on in the first half.

Thought Glennon hesitated coming for the ball but thought it was an own goal from Mirfin but the goal was later credited to Boulding. The second half had only just got going when we were 2-0 down. The Mansfield player looked to be off-side but there was no flag from the referee's assistant.

But Mansfield got what they deserved - they were by far the better team, were quicker to every ball and it's to be hoped we play better on Saturday or Nottingham Forest will get a bag full.

Town were passing the ball sideways and backwards and just not getting anywhere there just wasn't anybody running forward into space which resulted in the crowd booing just about every pass. Midfield was almost non-existent but I must say that Collins, who played for most of the game with his head bandaged after a clash, was Town's best player. It took Jacko 60 minutes to realise that we were being overrun in midfield and then he changed it to 4-3-3. The only substitution he made was when we had gone 2-0 down and he brought Boothy on for GTF but that didn't make any difference. Why on earth he didn't let Young have another run-out I don't know as I was quite impressed with him down at Brentford.

Good luck to Mansfield - they wanted revenge for the Play-Off defeat and they got it! A very poor performance from Town and surely we can't play any worse than that! Attendance 5,111 - of which all but about 250/300 went home bitterly disappointed.
