Bradford 0 - 1 Huddersfield
League 1
07-10-2006

It was one of those team efforts where we beat a team who (shhh) are better than us man for man almost all the way across the 11.

I feared the worst the way the game started with Adams in the book after perhaps 2 minutes, quickly joined by Holdsworth. It seemed they both were being punished for the cumulation of fouls by team mates, in fact Holdsworths was his first attempted tackle of the game (I suppose Adams probably was too - although I didn't think he deserved it, both him and Windass seemed to get confused by the wind and were both stretching for something that wasn't there), and didn't seem THAT bad.

I don't really remember much else except thinking on about 40 minutes that the half had absolutely flown by, Macintosh hit a free kick actually on target for the first time I've ever seen him do it, and I think I know now why he takes them...it was an absolute rocket. Nice place for the keeper, but he still had to pull a pretty decent stop out to deflect it up.

Add to that Taylor-Fletchers header from a corner which was goal bound until hooked clear from the line, and whilst Bradford seemed to have most possession it never really felt dangerous....I don't really remember any anticipation of a Bradford goal at all.

Oh. And we scored.

Second half I had that initial panic I'd had at the start of the first half as from the kick off they could have had the ball in the back of the net...but then beyond that I don't really think they had that many clear cut chances, due to some sterling defence from Mac and less so Clarke, with Worthington really commanding the game in front of them.

We sat back as the game drifted on, and especially when down to 10 men, and there were times when we rode our look...but we also had quite a few opportunities to bag a 2nd.

Decent performance all round...we just need to cap it off by actually getting a result at home now...and remember, we're unbeaten since Dungworth joined the bench.

On other stuff...whilst Adams deserved his 2nd yellow despite Doyle milking it somewhat, what followed was vaguely entertaining. Adams after getting his red card went straight in search of Doyle and after a bit of a ruck eventually wandered off, although I think he lost his bearings and was heading for the bench area which confused everyone and it flared up again until he was pointed back to the corner of the pitch!

Doyle took some unfair stick in the form of a few plastic bottles and a pie, but after that he fell to bits for a good 15 minutes with the crowd booing his every touch, he was playing noticeably further from the touchline, and I've never ever before seen a professional footballer whose job it is to take a throw in basically say he's too scared to, and give it someone else!! Absolute classic. He seemed to ask the ref to do something about it but the response was along the lines of, "you've just got a player sent off, its a local derby, what do you expect, get on with it".

Beckett was lethargic as usual. But guess what, I think we've possibly got the better player out of him and David Graham.

Abbott tried to do the right things when he came on.

Plenty to build on. Hopefully GTF is fit. And Holdsworth. And others...there'll be plenty of aching muscles in the morning, a real good EFFORT...which is all we ask for really?
