Oldham 1 - 1 Huddersfield League 1 07-04-2007I'm still amazed we managed to come out of that with a point - Oldham
looked a class above us (although perhaps not a league above us) almost
from start to end.
At half-time I thought we'd do well to keep it to anything less than 3-
0, and then with GTF being swapped I thought the 0 part of that was
nailed on!
But a scrappy goal and a bit of luck in front of goal at the other end
and I think we'll come away the happiest with that result.
One thought I had was that the team of players just isn't good enough
to work around GTF in his fluid role, and having Hand on meant that
things were a bit more rigid and organised in the second half, there
seemed to be a better overall shape to the team.
Likewise first half Collins and Skarz were torn apart almost at will
defensively, but for some reason I don't really remember them being
pressed at all in the second - again, could the more defined midfield
have helped them perhaps?
Hand seemed to be the catalyst, again like much of the recent Academy
product he looks to be severely lacking in the quality and pace
departments, but he made up for it with enthusiasm for the game,
constantly moving and making himself available to recieve the ball
where usually we're a static squad barring the fella on the ball - well
played that man, and the sight of him tearing two strips off Beckett
was worth the entrance fee alone!
Dreadful performance, but dogged towards the end to earn the point, and
in that few minutes spell leading up to full time the game could have
gone either way quite easily, Oldhams slick passing movement
contrasting nicely with our rag-tag but seemingly equally effective
approach.
The next manager has got a lot of work to do before the start of next
season if we're going to be serious contenders...I count at least 5
signings to replace players who really shouldn't even be on the subs
bench but who are getting starts at the moment. By Nigel Taylor from the HTFC mailing list. |
