Bournemouth 0 - 1 Huddersfield League 1 18-08-2007A well deserved 3 points imho.
Also an excellent performance from Ritchie. His plans must have been in disarray with Mirfin and Schofiled out, but, after a shaky first 30 minutes, our organisation was excellent with a fine allround performance.
The Cherries bossed the first 30 minutes with Anderton very dominantt in central midfield and running the game with a c lassy display. The turning point of the match for me came in the 30th minute when Kamara chased a hopeful ball over the top into the box, muscled aside a Bournemouth defender and drew a fine save from the keeper. From that moment onwards the Bournemouth defence was very unsettled by Kamara. I'm not too sure if the threat was real or imaginary. First time I've seen Kamara but I thought he had a fine match. I've not seen this type of performance from a Town player for a long time. He covered a prodidgous amouth of ground particularly in the second half and was a constant threat.
I though everyone played well. I've not seen Hartdy before. Like the team he seemed very shaky in the first 30 minutes but he settled down and coped well with the tricky Kaffur ... who has scored several against us in the past.. He played well alongside Clarke who had a commanding game. He seems particularly good at nicking in front of attackers and winning the ball on the ground, with good postioning and covering. Holdworth was untroubled. Skarz did particularly well at left back and was putting his foot through the ball at the right time.
Bournemouth nearly equalised in the last few minutes with a terrific shot from outside the box from Telfer, but Glennon, who had barely a save to make, pulled off a blinding one handed save high to his left, to classsically tip it over the bar.
A point would have been unjust. Beckett hit the post after a quality move involving Young and Collins in the first half. It came just before the goal which was a great header from Beckett from (I think) a Clarke free kick. How the Bournemouth defence came to leave the opposition striker totally unmarked from a set piece doesn't bode well for them for the rest of the season.
I thought we always looked more threatening that Bournemouth, untill Telfer came on in the last 20 minutes to bolster their midfield. We even had a very well worked free kick which Brandon curt back from the left for Skarz? to bring a fine save out of the Bournemouth keeper.
Early days but I thought this was a very promising performance. We have a manager who seems to be good at organising the players, brave enough to play 4-4-2. Beckett looked fit, Kamara was threatening and this was a good away performance. By Richard Holt from the HTFC mailing list. |
