Leyton Orient 0 - 1 Huddersfield Town League 1 08-03-2008This was a composed and quite often exciting performance by Town and the result flattered Orient. If Jeavons, Beckett and Booth had taken headed chances all of which looked easier to score than miss then Town could have won by 3 or 4 to give the type of convincing result we have been looking for (not to mention 2 decent penalty shouts). On the other hand Orient, who didn't create much at all, had one well kicked off the line by Clarke.
I thought Town dominated for virtually the whole 90 minutes. The root of the dominace was excellent performances from Page and Clarke at the back, Holdsworth in the middle and Kamara and Brandon out wide.
It was good to see Town playing with two out wide ... and actually getting them into the game most of the time. Brandon was solid, tricky and passed well. Kamara was an excellent out ball for the defence, beat his fullback almost at will and combined to got a lot of very high quality ball into the box.
Terrific goal. Beckett pressured their keeper into knocking the ball out for a throw in. Orient seemed half asleep and left Holdsworth in acres of space not far outside of the box. He slid it calmly out to Boothy who equally calmly slipped it across the box for Beckett to nip in at the near post with a deft finish.
Only disappointment was Jeavons who just looks that bit short of pace and quality when put into good positions by the build up play.
MOM - spoilt for choice. I'd like to give it to Kamara because he is such a threat for us and produced the goods. However, I think Page was outstanding particularly in marshalling Clarke. You can virtually see the weight lifted off Clarke's shoulders and the presence of Page just allows him to concentrate on his own game. Favourite moment of the game was in the last couple of minutes when we had a free kick in our half just on the edge of the centre circle. Glennon (who had an excellent game) was striding up to take it and Page turned round to him and said "get back on your f*ck*ng line" ... and he did. By Richard Holt from the HTFC mailing list. |
